“The Haul-a-Day Elite, a revolutionary long-tail cargo bike that has redefined urban mobility. It stands as the lightest and most versatile in its class, challenging conventional notions of weight and carrying capacity.” -Momentum Magazine
Starting at 34lbs it carries up to 440lbs. It’s low center of gravity makes getting on and off with a load easy. The frame adjusts to fit people 4ft 9 in to 6ft 6 in. E-assist is an option (starting at 43lbs for front hub motor bike) and you can disassemble the whole bike to pack into a car trunk for travel. Hand made from raw tubing in Oregon USA. Base model starts at 32 lbs (without e-assist).
A light weight, high performance cargo bike is not an oxymoron! Strong and light CAN go together. This is a cargo bike you will want to ride the long way home after your day of errands.
In 2023 we gave the whole frame and accessory options an overhaul, the original Bike Friday Haul-a-Day launched on Kickstarter in 2014. Using almost 10 years of customer feedback and racing success in the Disaster Relief Trials (winning more than 7 times in 5 events) we have developed a list of additional features and improvements that make the Haul-a-Day Elite a cargo bike that can do so many things no other cargo bike can.
The new Haul-a-Day Elite is stiffer, lighter, has an equivalent capacity, and handles a heavy load with more stability than the original Haul-a-Day. It retains all the same great features and improves on them by adding more! It also rides great with or with out e-assist.
The base model Haul-a-Day Elite, without e-assist, starts at 34lbs and comes with several options of gearing, handlebar style and colors. There are two options of e-assist style if you want an additional boost on your bike for any load or hill!
Improvements include:
Twin adjustable main-tubes for twice the stiffness and control with heavy loads. Providing a solid, capable, and sturdy ride without adding weight, and allowing one bike frame to adjust to fit a wide size range of riders (4′-9″ to 6′-6″). A totally different sizing universe from other brands.
1lb lighter frame through triangulated space-frame technology.
Total weight rating at 440lbs (200kg) (rider + bike + cargo) GVWR.
Compressionless brake housing for improved braking
Dedicated rear light mount on the optional Diamond Deck
Clearance for 2.25” tires with fenders and up to 2.4″ tires under certain component combinations (see bikepacking package option)
Accessory improvements to the kickstand and the Whoopee Deux bar. (More pictures and details coming soon, bikes built in July will have accessory improvements on them)
New accessory additions to the Haul-a-Day Elite:
New Elite frame bag option made at Bike Friday
New head tube braze-on that fits multiple brands’ bags and racks
Improved Yepp seat adapter compatibility (up to 2 Yepp seats).
New front rack design
Other Unique and Valuable Features of the Haul-a-Day Elite:
The lightest long-tail cargo bike built today. For perspective…other top brands weigh 15-40 lbs more for the same carrying capacity. You can actually lift this bike!
As the original vertical parking cargo bike, we ensured the Haul-a-Day Elite still stands on its rear end for small footprint storage, just like the first Haul-a-Day did 10 years ago.
Fits on many transport racks: bus, car, and train. It even stands upright on its rear end for easy storage.
It can even disassemble to fit inside a car trunk for long distance travel!
The only long-tail cargo bike built in the U.S.A.
Your Perfect Size – Truly!
The Haul-a-Day Elite frame is built to adjust the frame size in three places so you can really have a cargo bike that fits you properly (rider heights from 4′-9″ to 6′-6″). Raise the handlebars, lower the seatpost and/or seat mast, even adjust the frame size – you can change the size in just a few minutes to fit anyone in your family! That’s equivalent to 24 different bike sizes with one bike!!
The Adjustable Main Frame (Bike Friday makes the only one in the industry):
Below you can see it only takes one Allen wrench and a few minutes to change a small bike into a large bike or large bike into a small one. With this one revolutionary feature one bike can fit almost everyone. This is the only cargo bike in the world that offers that.

I just bought a Bike Friday Haul-A-Day with E-Assist on it. We are a small family with a 7 year old. We just spent the last 6 years on a Yuba Mundo, which my wife would not ride because it was heavy and huge. She is in love with this Haul-A-Day and it's very likely we will be getting a second soon(so I don't lose mine). The E-Assist is pretty amazing and works really well. The only thing I will change moving forward is that I got the stock 8 gear set-up and I will be adding an internal hub in the rear to get a few more gears(I feel too limited with the 8 gears). In the end it's easy to ride and much more stable than our last cargo bike when you put a kiddo and gear on the back.

I would recommend Bike Friday in a heartbeat and would also re-buy the Haul-a-day with zero hesitation
Incredibly practical bikes for living a life without a car. I own the Haul-a-day (the older one) and it has handled everything I've tried to carry with it so far. I can also attest to their customer support being very reliable. I had to replace a stuck seat mast assembly and they were very helpful in sourcing out which parts I actually needed to replace, manufacturing them, and getting them sent out to me. I would recommend Bike Friday in a heartbeat and would also re-buy the Haul-a-day with zero hesitation when mine inevitably has to retire.

Haul-A-Day Elite in Taipei
Ever since we got the HaD Elite, it has become the go-to choice for our kids. Compared to our other cargo bike, the HaD Elite’s design makes it easier for them to hop on and off. My wife and I appreciate its versatility too—the adjustable geometry accommodates our different heights. The HaD Elite excels at carrying kids, their belongings, groceries, and even laundry. When we need to transport more, our flatbed trailer further extends its utility. As a family, we enjoy our rides within Taipei city. The dedicated bike lanes ensure safer commutes, whether we’re taking the kids to school or exploring riverside parks and playgrounds.

Haul-A-Day-Elite
The bike has been amazing. The ride home went well, I actually rode it a fair amount without the assist actually. Since then I've been able to fine tune some things like the frame and seat. I just finished riding the kids to school all week which was great. My youngest loves taking rides on it. Riding with both of them wasn't too hard, but it does drain the battery faster having 150 lbs. of live weight back there. “

We paid $2800 CAD in 2018 and then another $1200CAD to add electric about a year later and used it daily as a second car for the family as school was across a bridge for over 5 years. We took it camping to mayne island and intend to take it on the train to Portland eventually. We were early adopter in our neighborhood of a cargo bike and people used to stare and cheer and waive when our littles were happily riding together on the back. Now we take their younger cousins to the beach and the local festivals this way and our “big kids” can ride their own bikes. It’s pretty common now especially in east Vancouver to see cargo bikes commuting with kids but as a lighter couple with smaller kids we found the agility and size of the haul a day easier to manage and preferable to some of the other cargo bikes out there. The panniers and huge front basket we outfitted ours with fit ALL the things and giving our kids the experience of car-light freedom makes me very happy

I got my Haul-a-Day in 2016. Seven years later, it is still my daily ride for school dropoff an and pickups, errands, everything. I’m 5’0” tall and struggle with larger bikes, but this one is perfect. And it’s so compact. I got a flat tire on my way home one night and was able to lift it onto the bike rack on a city bus and just get home to fix it. We’ve also taken it on Amtrak without issue, which isn’t common for a cargo bike. The two-part frame also saved us on a bike tour when a scheduled ferry (the last one of the night) didn’t show up. We had to go with plan B, and the only way we fit our family plus our bikes into an UberXL is by taking apart the frame and folding the Haul-a-Day in half. I don’t know what we would have done if we had not been able to do that. In short, this is the most versatile cargo bike I’ve seen.

I purchased my Haul-a-Day nearly 7 years ago when my kids were 1 and 4 to replace an unwieldy child seat and trailer combo. I loved the bike then and – to my surprise – long after the kids began riding on their own, it is still the bike I want. It started out as the daily family vehicle. Once the kids started to ride their own bikes, it became the Plan B option. If they got tired, I’d strap their bikes to the HaD and they’d climb in. (That was easy with one kids bike. A little more awkward with two.) Even now the kids will sometimes get a ride if we’ll be on busy roads or if it is – for whatever reason – more convenient. But for the most part, it is now just my daily bike for commuting and shopping. So I thought maybe it is time for me to finally graduate from the HaD back to a “normal” bike. I shopped around, tried some out, and … I’m sticking with my Haul-a-Day. For city commuting, the difference in riding experience just isn’t that big a deal. But the convenience of being able to get groceries without planning ahead and connecting a trailer is huge. Every now and then I curse a little when I try to maneuver it onto public transit, but that’s a small gripe. And at least that is possible with the HaD when it isn’t with other larger cargo bikes. I’m a huge fan and it continues to be useful as my family needs evolve.

Words cannot describe how much I love my Haul-a-Day. I just passed 500 miles on this bike and everyone of them has been so much fun. I have the e-assist, which allowed me to bike up big hills while pregnant, with my 3yo on back, groceries in the side-bags, and her little bike strapped on to the cargo rack. When I don’t need it, I just turn the assist off. I’ve even used this bike to cart around large objects that wouldn’t fit in my car. Totally love this bike!

This is my third year with my haul-a-day. I love this bike. My kids are now 5 & 7 years old and we’ve gone everywhere in NYC on this bike for 3 years. Love how relatively small and light the bike is for getting up and down stairs and into my basement bike room. Love how the bike handles with smaller wheels = lower center of gravity. I never feel like the bike is going to tip even with two kids. OK, except for when they are jumping on and off! But that’s not the bike’s fault. And even with two kids, the cargo capacity is amazing. I have the younger rider add-on with a back bar rest that i strap an Ortlieb panier onto for water-proof storage for backpacks, lunch, papers. In the haul-a-day bags I can stick the kids scooters, hockey sticks, beach toys, whatever. This bike takes a beating and my local bike shop always admire the craftmanship of this bike when they’re making adjustments.
I have the 24 speed, not the e-assist. Trying to stay in shape. Hahah. Just ordered the safety flag. Considering the under rack bag too for extra storage.

My Haul-a-Day is primary transportation and it has been great for many years . It is hard to beat the load capacity of the Haul-a-Day. It regularly carries a full-sized Stratocaster electric guitar, several bags of groceries, and sometimes even groceries and my svelte sister-in-law up challenging hills! Having recently moved farther out of town, except for furniture, my Haul-a-Day even carried most of my belongings for the several weeks I took to relocate.

Hi, I’ve had my haul-a-day for around 2.5 years now so I guess this is a long term review. I equipped mine with 2 Yepp child seats. I’m very happy to say my kids and I had a whale of a time with this unit. I would like to suggest 2 tweaks to the design. These are pertaining to the rack. The 1st is to design the rack to fit Yepp child carrier without any adapter. This helps to lower a bit of weight but more importantly the height of the seat by around 3 inches which helps with the stability. The second is to have some more sturdy and robust protection when one stands the bike on the rack.

I got my Bike Friday Haul-a-day Cargo Bike in April this year after doing a lot of research on the best way to transport my toddler and self on our daily errands and commute. I’m not sure how much it weighs with all the super practical outfittings, but as a 115lbs woman I feel that it is light enough. I definitely would not be as excited to ride some of the other, heavier, cargo bikes out there. We’ve carried lots of groceries and large loads of laundry without a problem and, I hope, inspired kindness and safety from automobilists.
I hope other families find that the right bike can replace a car 99.9% of the time, and that it is much more pleasant than going the stroller route. Oh, and my child also loved riding the bike, making the hand signals, and taking a nap in the back seat (I highly recommend the Hamax caress which easily reclines 20° and has arm rests).
Prospective owners and their spouses should be warned that the Haul-a-day comes with urges to get large items from the hardware store and gardening center on a whim, so you just got to keep that in check…

Super excited about my Bike Friday Haul-A-Day Cargo Bike. Order process went well and when I got my bike there were some small changes which we worked through with service and together we created the perfect bike for our family needs. We are truly thankful for our family bike with E-Assist on it and we find new things all the time that make us fall deeper in love each day. Thanks, Bike Friday for making great E-bikes right here in Eugene, Oregon!

I was recently able to acquire two used early-model HADs with rim brakes for very cheap after pining for one for months and trying to find ways to scrounge up enough cash. Serendipity. I have two small kids, so car trips have been significantly reduced. I’ve also hauled friends up the block during bar crawls. It can carry just about anything you want. I also deliver food with Burrito Brigade in Eugene, OR every week, and can carry about 100 burritos in the slings, or as much with a Burley trailer in tow. I’m in love with everything about it. I own five bikes, and if I could only keep one, this would be it. My wife was skeptical at first, but she’s sold on hers, too.

I got my orange Bike Friday Haul-A-Day Cargo Bike(HaD) as part of the Kickstarter.com campaign.
I was looking for a cargo bike to replace my car for short errands and was stoked to find one made in Eugene. What I didn’t expect was a bike that’s so much fun to ride!
My HaD recently carried 30 lbs of dog food, 24 canning jars and 12 rolls of toilet paper and more, in one run. With its 20″ wheels, the load stays low so the bike doesn’t sway back and forth when you stand on the pedals, and it gets rolling really easily.
I’ve enjoyed fine-tuning the fit with the highly adjustable frame and figuring the best ways to carry different loads. I now have two Ortlieb panniers for our rainy winter weather on one side and the HaD sling on the other, with a cooler bag stashed inside for quick grocery runs.
So far, so good. There are very few things I’d change about this bike, and it’s definitely working to keep my car cold and lonely.
Thanks Bike Friday!
Front Hub Drive (Class 1) – Available on all standard models New & Used
We have developed a lightweight, reliable, e-assist system using non-proprietary parts for serviceability.
The motor replaces the front hub with a motor optimized specially for our 20-inch and 16-inch wheel sizes. The battery and circuitry stow into frame bags for a discreet solution that delivers an enjoyable and intuitive riding experience up to 20 mph. This system utilizes a pedal-assist system, which engages the motor as you pedal (no throttle).
A front hub E-assist motor fitted to a Bike Friday New World Tourist
Overview
This is a “class one” pedal assist. Max assisted speed 20mph. (these are key for many regional laws)
The standard batteries we use are 36 volt with a capacity of 450 watt hours. Estimated mileage in optimal conditions is 40-50 miles per charge
Also compatible with LIGO 10X battery upgrade (the only battery you can fly by air with your bike)
The whole kit adds only ~ 11lbs to your Bike Friday (for standard 36v/12ah)
The E-assist kit can be retrofitted on any Bike Friday.
Equipped with a clutch, which means less resistance when not using the electric assist
Great value when considering weight, function, and cost altogether. A high-quality investment.
5 Levels of Assist
Non-proprietary, so if any part fails at nearly any point in the future, compatible replacements can be easily found even if the original manufacturer doesn’t exist anymore.

Frequently asked questions
How many LiGo modules do I need? We recommend at least 3 modules for standard rides. For longer distances or steeper terrain, 4 modules are advised.
How much weight does this add? The equivalent battery capacity to our standard offering adds an additional 1.55 lbs per cell / 3 cells – 4.65 lbs / 4 cells – 6.2 lbs. (As batteries must be transported in carry-on, this additional weight does not affect whether the bike or suitcase can be checked.)
Can I buy batteries separately or upgrade later? Yes. If you wish to source your batteries directly from Grin Technologies, you can – just inform your sales rep. We also offer a converter kit if you want to upgrade to this option later or retrofit an existing e-assist system.
What certifications do these batteries have? The LiGo 10X complies with UN38.3, EN15194, EN62133-2, FCC/IC/CE (EMC/EMI) and meets regulatory requirements for e-bike battery packs in most regions. If you require UL2271 certification (e.g., for New York), please see our All-Day offering, which has full UL2271 and UL2849 compliance.

We love our Haul a Day for family cycle touring and for hauling anything and everything around town!

My Haul A Day, version from 2017 maybe? Just the best hauler out there, carries kids, wife & kid, ladders. It’s just amazing and fun to ride.

Thanks for making such a cool, fun bike! I’ve been riding Bike Friday Haul-A-Day Cargo Bike everyday rain or shine since the buying it from the crew at Electric Lady in Seattle, Washinton and it’s made each ride a fun experience for me and my kids 🙂
