Family Tandem Still Packing it In

It's been a quick five+ years since my wife and I bought our Bike Friday Family Tandem. Our kids are grown, we are a few years older but as we get more free time, we are finding ourselves on our tandem more now than ever.

We love the way that we can pack everything up into 2 suitcases and take it on an airplane trip to a new destination. We just got back from our first multi-day bike trip and our tandem performed flawlessly for the whole 150+ mile long trip. Our Family Tandem rode great on the unpaved Great Allegheny Passage (GAP) trail thus making it a pleasurable and memorable trip. With the varied range of gears, wide tires and very convenient Bike Friday trailer conversion for the suitcase we had a trip that will be fondly remembered for years to come.Whether taking an airplane trip together as a couple with our Family Tandem or taking a business trip alone with my Bike Friday Pocket Expedition, I've got great peace of mind knowing that I have the best folding bike available as well as the greatest product support when needed.

problems on saturday

Bought a BF tandem 3 years ago. I learned a lot about mecchanics since. there is no after service outside USA.

I had to change chainrings 3 times, chain once, front brakes once (not pads but the whole brakes because it broke in a slope...) and I had to take my kid to the hospital once because she had her feet hurted between the chain and chainring. We never ride more than 5 km from home, we had to do the trip back home pushing the tandem at least 5 times. I own 5 bikes and the one I use the less is the one that has the more problem and also that cost the more: BF

Nice family bike

We bought our tandem when my son was 1. His Kettler seat suspended from the back seat mast, my wife stoked. Just when he hit the limit of the seat he was 36 inches tall. We inverted the rear bars and got some small pedal clips and presto - I captain and he the 4 year old stoker. My wife rides alongside and we feel safe and are very happy with the bike, the flexibility. Great family time and a great way to get our son into biking. We send out some great Photo Christmas cards of the family on the bike, getting many comments about our bike and less fortunately of my "thingie" in bike shorts. My mother in law looks at me differently now... not sure if it's the bike...
