Mountains & Valleys of Hokkaido & Nagano
Cycle the island of Hokkaido, gem of northern Japan: We start in the city of Asahikawa, second largest in Hokkaido, but spend most of our time in a beautiful valley, biking over rolling hills of patchwork fields. Transfer to Daisetsuzan National Park and 7500 ft. Mt. Asahi, ride a cable car, enjoy fall colors, soak in hot springs. Pedal down the mountain, visit an Ainu museum to learn about the culture and history of the indiginous people.
After flying to Tokyo, ride a bullet train to Nagano, in the mountains northwest of Tokyo: bike through traditional rice farming villages and along the Chikuma river. Meet local people and try your hand at Japanese cuisine. Experience traditional tea ceremony, kimono. Biking distances 30 – 40 miles a day at a moderate pace. Support van in Hokkaido. Luggage will be transported. Tour begins in Asahikawa, Hokkaido and ends in Tokyo.
