The Gal Fridays in August 2005: L to R Lynette Chiang, Colony Krecklow, Gaylynn HanavanCoon, Ruthy Kanagy and Hanna Scholz. Rita and Laura were (wo)manning the fort.
UNTIL recently, bicycles were designed with the average male physique in mind - generally a longer body and shorter legs. Women, with a generally shorter body and longer legs, often found it a "stretch" to find a bike that fits them.
Now of course, there are many 'women specific' models available, but unfortunately for the smaller rider, the standard 26-27" wheel still dictates just how small the frame can go before 'toe overlap' occurs (hitting the front wheel with one's foot). A Bike Friday is not only custom-fitted to the individual rider, the smaller 20" wheels allow all riders great and small - from dwarves to NBA Basketball players, kids to 80+ year olds, to ride in comfort and safety without sacrificing performance. And the 'friendly' Friday stepover height makes a Bike Friday a truly universal, all-ages, all-sizes, all-purpose bicycle.
We want to encourage more women to ride! Check out the links below and if you're a woman, and if you're not already a Gal Friday we'd like to welcome you to the fold. Got stories about you and your Friday to add to the collection? Send them to: bfclubs at bike friday dot com.
