![]() Dear Bike Friday, Just wanted to say hi and thanks for quickly getting the new stoker seat mast out to me before my recent trip to Hawaii, and to share with you some of our adventures. My family and I got back a week and a half ago from Maui. I was happy to be able to take the Two'sDay tandem over, and it seems to have survived the packing and unpacking. Withthe new seat mast, the bike performed well, and fit my son Ian and me just fine. We got out for some easy rides together, and I took a great ride by myself the last full day we were in Hawaii, from our hotel in Kaanapali around the northern coast of the island to a friend's house in Wailuku, 33 miles in all. Part of this ride is on 2 lane highway, but some of the most spectacular part is on a one lane road which narrows down to 10' wide in some sections. Typical views include 180+ degrees of ocean, steep lush canyons ending at rocky beaches, and rolling cattle land and taro farms. Little villages dot the way, some with roadside stands pitching shave ice, banana bread, or simply cold water. It was just spectacular and great to experience by bicycle - any other mode of transportation wouldnot have been the same, and it's an adventure I would not have had without my Bike Friday. I've gotten the whole family out with the bike too! Last Saturday, we joined about 75 other cyclists, a bunch of kayakers, and the San Francisco Bicycle Coalition for a tour promoting the San Francisco Blue Greenway, a series of parks along the eastern waterfront in SF. The event was called "Imagine the Way", and was held to raise awareness of the parks and a proposed series of bike paths connecting the small parks. A San Francisco Chronicle reporter and photographer were there - I guess with three people on one bike we stood out (see attached photo of me with son Ian, daughter Zoe, and wife Elizabeth). I wasquoted in the story and Ian got his photo in the paper: http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2006/06/25/BAGATJK5CS1.DTL. We also meta rider on a New World Tourist (she took our photo and may be sending it in to you - she periodically sends in photos and says she loves her bike. Please also see the attached photo of my son Ian and his buddy Yoshi (with Two's Day and attached trail-a-bike); I'd just picked up the two of them from summer camp with the bike. It's now been 16 years since I took a 2500+ mile solo cross country trip on my Best to all at Bike Friday! John Trevithick San Francisco |
