Same 25 kg 3-speed bike *********!!!!

40 to 50 kg luggage

1995 to 99 Guinness Book of Records:

"Most Travelled Man in History"

Well, you might have read about Richard Gregg, the World Traveler of 12.5 years who pedaled by Bike Friday early in 2003. Richard, now in Toronto and heading south for Tierra del Fuego, is a good friend of the ultimate world traveler Heinz Stucke, who has been on the road for 37 years and still rolling.

His photos from his travels are awesome. On pooping and peeking over the shoulder of someone surfing his site, I have to contend Heinz's bike's-eye view of our spinning orb of sand, sea, astro turf and Golden Arches rivals even the birds-eye gawk as exemplified by that bird-cam-to-end-all-bird-cam-movies, 'Winged Migration'.

Now Richard also revealed that in order to get back in the Guinness Book of Records as 'Most Traveled Cycle Tourist', Heinz was looking for a bike that was easier to fly around with ... to tick off those last few zip-coded lumps of dirt floating in an azure sea ... hmmm ... we'll keep you posted. I'd sell him a pair of custom-fitted wings except they've a weight limit even more stringent than the Petite Bike Fridays...

Meanwhile, feel free to offer support to this icon of world travel by buying his brochures or postcards. Info on his site above.

You can contact him on heinzstucke@hotmail.com

Screech! Update! James the Yak Tandem aficionado says he's not pulling our collective legs. From the Yak October 23:

It's not a joke. I'll send fred@bikefriday.com a photo of my tandem in the midst of a few of my yaks. 20" wheels are ideally suited for carrying bikes on a trekking yak--less cumbersome. The tandem comes apart so I can put a section on each side when the terrain is beyond the cyclist and more suited to the cloven-hoofed yak.

Jim Harding DualTerrain

We love our BF community - folks who think outside the 20" wheel. WAY outside. I squawked about James earlier as per below:

OK, someone FINALLY had to make a YAK joke about the YAK! OR has come up with a truly brilliant synergism of hoof and handlebars. I am just waiting to read this gentleman's next posting in which he'll either say 'April Fool' in late October or pony up with the pic...

From: "James Harding", dualterrain@hotmail.com Subject: Yaks Date: Mon, 20 Oct 2003 05:13:59 +0000 Message-ID:

I've been looking through the postings here but don't see anything specifically about Yaks and cycling. I have a few BF bikes and a new "Dual Terrain" tandem. It's a dual terrain set up, allowing one to ride the tandem as a road tandem or an offroad tandem based on the production Twin Air design. I also have a herd of yaks and am training them to ride and pack. My goal is to use my cattle dogs to run between the tandem and the yaks. The yaks carry the supplies (food, water, extra wheels, gear, sleeping bags, yak food, etc.). But, I don't see any yak discussions on yak@bikefriday.com. Can someone point me to the yak section/postings? Is there an area to upload photos in case anyone is interested in seeing my yak tandem?

- yes James, send that photo to fred@bikefriday.com, so we can hoist it high on my lofty perch, and I'll post one of my Parakeet-pulled millet-motored combine harvester.

SQUUUUUARK! Until next week!
