November 23, 2004 Robinson in Qatar, India ...
This bulletin from Robinson's minder Slo Jo Keenan:
Ah Monsiouur Robinson. He ees goot. He ees traveling and wooing all the womens. What a cad he ees. Sadly, he is doing very little cycling. In India, the tour was a "...if it's Tuesday this must be Belgium.." tour, with no chance to bring the SRD as it was a different hotel every night and little room in the car. Photos of India at the end of this. Choose what you want to look at, but be sure to look at the Bike Transport photos. No Bike Friday's I'm afraid. I did see a couple touring on their bikes, but we were going 80 kmh in the opposite direction.
His next trip is to Sri Lanka, where there is one city where I hope to rent a bike for a day. Again, it's a whirlwind tour of sites and monuments with little cycling time allotted.
In the meantime, I'm doing 2.5 mile loops around the campus here in Qatar. I sent Walter some pics of the "picturesque country side". Friday is the sabbeth and I've found that all the crazy camel jockeys are off the road, making it safe to sneak out and get in a 30 to 40 mile ride.

SCREEEEECH! Well, after going AWOL for several weeks in the Philippines with pilot and Air Friday owner Mark Madach, Robinson the Bike Friday Traveling Otter mysteriously landed back at the Eugene factory in a discreet brown paper padded bag.
Not so discreet was his jolly outfit - a straw hat and jaunty yellow scarf, together with a pair of rather soft quads and calf muscles suggest he spent a few too weeks sipping mai-tais and languishing in a bamboo easy chair.
I haven't been able to get hold of Mark for comment. We strongly suspect he fell in love and send Robinson home without a note in case he was inclined to gossip about What Mark was Doing Off His Friday rather than on ... all we could get out of him was that he was zipped into a handlebar bag when the sun went down and everything went black ...
Now, Robinson is off to Qatar with Sat R Day owner Slo Jo Keenan!
Slo Jo popped by the factory to slip Robinson into a corner of his TravelCase.
"I figure the two of us could take a spin around Doha, taking in the complete city in a whirlwind tour, exploring Camel Races, Sand Dune Skiing, and the Emir knows what else..." said Slo Jo, suggesting his sortie to that sandy spot will be anything but s-l-o.
So I guess we can expect to see images of Robinson in a flowing white robe, neatly trimmed Omar Sharif moustache, perched on the pointy part of a camel...
