SCREEEECH! Last time we saw Robinson the Adventurous Bike Friday Otter, he was about to step on a flying carpet to Qatar (pronounced cat-TAR) with Sat R Day owner Slo Jo Keenan. Several weeks later - no word from Jo or our little frontiering furball. Was he now a coinpurse for a Arabic messenger boy? A lapel pin on some sheik's vest (as I was heard to chirp)? No, they both surfaced last week, this time in Sri Lanka en route to the Nile. Jo's excuse for the silence was that Qatar was not the romantic Lawrence of Arabia one might fantasize about but a pretty bland place covered in a thick layer of sand. Robinson atop a dune would hardly have caught the imagination of you, dear reader, he reasoned. Well, a dune in a backyard sandpit and a dune in Qatar are still two very different animals. He's really looking forward to Egypt and getting back to his routes...er..roots! Robinson asked me to share these exotic photos with you. After being cooped up in a small apartment in Qatar for 3 months, Robinson planned on having a great time in Sri Lanka. The first two days started well and he visited some old Sri Lankan friends as you can see by the attached photos. Sadly, his Sri Lankan vacation was ended by the terrible tsunami that struck the region. Robinson didn't get to go to any very exotic or touristy places. The first few days were spent driving to pretty much nothing towns but a nice hotel. The monuments, temples, safari, and beaches were all scheduled but cancelled because of the tsunami. He was thankful that his tour schedule had him a day away from the beaches. Robinson's next trip is January 21st to the 29th, when he'll be cruising down the Nile and visiting the spot where he first appeared for Bike Friday.
