Heinz's bike stolen.
Hello Everyone,
My name is John and I live in Belfast Northern Ireland.
I heard the amazing story of Heinz from a random guy I met on the road from Lhasa to Kathmandu last year. Heinz had stayed at his house in Taiwan for a few days back in the 90's.
I was reading the paper today and saw the headline "Thieves bring cyclist's world to a halt"
Reading the story I knew it must be the guy I'd been told of. He landed in Portsmouth, England last weekend and his bike was stolen as he slept in his tent early on Monday morning.
Apparently the local police have given him a bike from their station. So I guess he must be planning to continue.
I'm searching online now for details of how to contact Heinz to offer him a place to stay if he comes to Northern Ireland. If anyone can pass on this offer of hospitality I would be very grateful.
My feelings about this are quite strange. He's a complete stranger to me, a guy I've only heard about once and (just this evening) read about on the internet. Yet I feel profoundly saddened that this should happen in my country after he's been through so much.
In case this never reaches him let me just say that I have a huge amount of respect for the way he is living his life, and I wish him all the best in the future.
ps. Search for the story on The Guardian website www.guardian.co.uk
