Subject: Folding questions
I received my new NWT last week and it's fabulous.
Riding/shifting/handling are all ideal. But I have a couple of issues
I'd like to ask the list about:
1) I can't get the durn thing into the TravelBag. I primarily plan to
use the bike for commuting and I want to be able to bring it into my
workspace and stuff it under a desk. I think this is really more about
my lack of mechanical skills than anything else, but when I follow the
directions in the guide to do a quick fold it is still too bulky to fit
into the bag. The problem seems to be the H-style handlebars; I'm not
exactly sure how the stem fits between the wheels. So, I must be doing
something wrong.
2) The chain falls off of the front crank every time I fold it, no
matter what rear chainring it's in. I have ordered a "chain retainer"
from Kurt at BF which should fix the problem but if it works it should
probably be standard equipment for commuters.
3) After some advice from this list I purchased a Topeak Road Morph
pump. Where is a good place to mount this puppy?

Congratulations on your new bike! Don't forget
we have a service department
(service@bikefriday.com or call the 800# and ask
for service) that makes a job out of answering
these types of questions.
Luckily, you have an ex-service manager to help
you out. So here goes:
1. Put the bike in the bag and zip it up as much
as possible. Then stand it upright and shake.
This will allow the bike to settle to the bottom.
Then zipping up should be easy.
2. The chain retainer is not added to all the
bikes as a standard because it adds to the weight
and many people (myself included) don't mind
having to touch the chain every now and then.
But it will solve your problem.
3. Ron's suggestion for the pump mount is
appropriate. If you use the long bolts, the
mount will fit under the bottle cage.
Hope that helps and enjoy!
