Northeast Tour - Companions Wanted
Submitted by Public User on Thu, 2004-04-15 23:00.
I am planning a 5-day camping/moteling tour through NY, NJ and PA sometime between July 25 and July 31. Daily mileage will be around 50, as that is also my age and I am beyond trying to set mileage and distance records. It will be a baptism for my new BF. I have advertised this ride in Adventure Cycling ("Companions Wanted"). My wife and kids are humoring me but don't want me to do this alone. I will be following the Adventure Cycling route and have a tentative itinerary set up. So far I have one other person interested. If you are interested please e-mail me at jgarcia@panynj.gov and I will send you the itinerary. Thanks.

Re: Northeast Tour - Companions Wanted
Well, the tour is over, and it was great. 220 miles over 5 days. We followed the Adventure Cycling East Coast route from the Hudson River at Poughkeepsie, west to the Delaware, south to Lambertville and then east back to the Hudson. The Bike Fridays worked perfectly. The Travel Trailers were fantastic although we did not realize they are a lot heavier than panniers and therefore slowed us down a lot on the rolling hills of southern NY and northern NJ. Our cycling helmets come off to Dave Porter, the BF Club NJ Chapter president, for cycling through pouring rain to meet us halfway through the tour, escort us back to his house, put us up for the night and then portage our Travel Trailers 40 miles to our campsite the next day, thereby giving our weary legs some welcome relief for a day. Next year, a two-week ride with my Bike Friday along the Pilgrim's Path in northern Spain. Chorizo, anyone?
