After two tours in Europe taking a full sized bike in an iron case and
then taking panniers and a lot of stuff, I looked at a Bike Friday as an
easier alternative. In 2001 four of us (two dads with 30 year younger
sons)toured Europe with Pocket Rockets and Carradice bags with quick
release fittings. Four countries and eight trains later we were sold on
the Friday/Carradice combination. The genius of the 10 kilo limit is
you just take what you need to survive for two weeks and a credit card
to finance food and shelter. In Switzerland we arrived at the train
station..removed bags and quick folded the bikes and boarded the train
in less than ten minutes. In 2002 two of us went to Scotland with pocket
rockets with carradice bags. The bag is just right for ten days to two
weeks. I just got back from nine days in New Zealand ..two guys with
pocket rockets with quick release Carradice bags. Great combination.
Changing subject...we both converted to the caprio hub/32-9 cassette.
Another brilliant innovation.
