I go to work

Geez, are the rest of the Bike Friday owners perpetual tourists, pedaling through exotic locales? Am I the only grunt commuting to work on my (John Deere Green) Pocket Llama?

These bikes are for more than vacation!

Re: I go to work

=v= Work? Who has time for work? Don't you know there's a recession on? Besides, there are so many exotic locales to ride to. I've been riding in Omaha and now I'm checking out Pittsburgh. Woo hoo!

Re: I go to work

Oh, I forgot, I am waiting for my daughter to SHOPPING at The Gap....and for people to pick up their friends at the airport and saving the extra seat on their tandem for the ride back, and going to worship all gussied up in their Sunday finest, or visiting recovering friends at the hospital, going to the movies on a bike. We could write a poem about this!

Re: I go to work

Well, Michael, here I am tapping out a reply that I am getting ready this morning to pedal to work to...one of my most enjoyable activities right now.

The tours, solo and group will come later this year for the first time.

But what I want to hear is people actually go shopping at the grocery store, pharmacy, Home Depot, and gee maybe my daughter going SHOPPING. When people go shopping on their bikes, we'll know that transportation trends are changing!

Re: I go to work

If there is ONE thing I do on the bike friday, it's grocery shopping. No need to search for a car spot when coming back. Pharmacy ? No, biking keeps people healthy. Home depot ? I rarely go, and what I buy is usually too large to be carried on a bike. Movies ? I've done that. Also Target, bookstore, and of course commuting (could as well walk, it's just one block).

Re: I go to work

I'm afraid to leave my SatRDay parked outside the library, grocery store, movie theater...

I ride it straight to work, park it inside, ride it home, and go on pleasure rides.

Re: I go to work

Don't be so modest, Michael. :-)

We met you cycling through the *definitely* "exotic locale" of Crabtree, Linn County, Oregon on the Covered Bridge Bike Tour August 9th.

(Also noted on the CBBT: 2 smiling couples on Two'sDays (including Carol & Vic Stuber, if I'm not mistaken), and a smiling lady on a NWT.)

Re riding to work: Portland might be the top bike-commuting city in the US. It's a kick to watch afternoon rush hour at the downtown approach to the Hawthorne Bridge: dozens of cyclists pretty-expertly "surfing" the traffic.

Did you ride the Bridge Pedal Aug 10th?

Re: I go to work

Ah, the Hawthorne, it is my favorite bridge. After a short cruise up the waterfront it's a buzz across the Willamette River and then a merge into traffic and negotiating the traffic lights downtown.

No, I didn't ride the Bridge Pedal. I was one of the people with the STOP/SLOW sign pacing the start of the 13,000 lucky cyclists who did.
