Gaylynn HanavanCoon, Queen Voice of Bike Friday, and Hanna Scholz, daughter of Alan Scholz and right/left hand woman at BF, recently attended the Cinderella ride on March 29, 2003.
Hanna was the original Burley baby - father Alan was the originator of Burley Design Co-operative, and designed the famous yellow and purple Burley trailer (how many of you knew that?)
Gaylynn is famously known as one of the smallest Sat R Day riders on the Planet, and more importantly, she likes chocolate.
Here's Gaylynn's report:
"Hanna and I stood in line at 6:50am in the morning and listened as ladies spoke of new shoes for cycling and great shorts, in the next breath they were talking about how many oranges were on there trees and making fresh juice, no one was worried that line was not moving yet and with every minute that passed it was growing longer by 7:00 it was the length of two city blocks.
The feeling of all ladies was so relaxed it is not a race nor did many make it a race but a truly social ride. 2500 woman riding bikes together all support by the MEN, the Valley Spokesmen of Dublin California. They must be pushing the right buttons for us women, because they have to limit the number of riders, and this ride just keeps growing strong. The Cinderella is a metric century ride (100 km) that runs out to the country side over many rolling hills past vineyards and historical bed and breakfasts.
We passed from one community to the next all welcoming us, ate lunch in a school yard and the last rest stop was in the front of a old white church you would have seen on Little House on the Prairie.
There was certainly enough sag and technical support to make beginning riders feel safe going solo.
So next year in late March, I am pretty sure I'll make that same 8-hour car drive for a long day on my Sat R Day to ride and enjoy the company of woman who love riding as much as my self."

I asked Hanna for her take on the ride, as she rushed from Inventory to Shipping ...
"Oh, as I tucked in behind an intense peloton of carbon fiber TREKS and Terrys a gal looked down at the Air Glide I borrowed from the BF showroom and said, "Why didn't you bring your GOOD bike?" A few miles later she changed her tune when she saw I was still right beside her!"
