Our Bike Fridays fresh out of the suitcase, for a coastal test ride on the island of Socotra. Returning to Hadibo, Socotra's 'capital', before dusk. Giant sand dunes keep us silent company on the road back to Hadibo. We start our six days' loop around the island on a rare stretch of asphalt road, passing a rusted Russian tank and a family of goats. End of the asphalt... and the end of the first day. Time to pitch our tent, with the western cape of Socotra in sight...

Gnarly rock outcrops along the northern coast of Socotra. To cross Socotra coast to coast, we push our bikes onto the Diksam plateau. Arabian Sea to Indian Ocean in just one day. Stunning diversity of landscapes on the Diksam plateau. Umbrella-shaped Dragon's Blood trees symbolize the wealth of endemic species on Socotra. What do you do on a Friday? Cruising on Socotra's southern plains, where tourist 4x4s never come... A faithful companion. One month biking on Yemen's challenging roads and not a single puncture.

A faithful companion. One month biking on Yemen's challenging roads and not a single puncture. The unmistakable silhouettes of our Friday goats against the glow of Seyyun's most famous mud-brick palace. Kickin' it with Hadrami shepherdesses in their funky chapeaus on the road out of Shibam. Bike travelers are extremely rare in Yemen... a woman on a bike is sure to turn heads. Divine biking through papaya groves in Wadi Hadramawt, the longest dry river bed in the Arabian Peninsula.
