Lynette Chiang traffic cone bag

My homemade, reversible traffic cone bag: Modeled on the standard drawstring gym bag but improved. Beacon by day, discrete black drawstring even bag by night. Triple layer waterproof and breathable hiking jacket fabric I bought from The (amazing) Rainshed in Corvallis, OR. Wider webbing straps don't cut into your shoulders yet still slide within the closure hem of the bag easily. D-rings at corners inside and out make it reversible. Highlighted with Lightweights reflective patches (see below). Foldable for storing in jersey pocket on day rides but retuning home via a store. This is part of my plan to stay alive on the road.

I've been asked by a lot of people to make one for them - it will be the first item in my new line of Galfromdownunder Couture!

I was first introduced to these by BF Club of Chicago member Kathy Schubert. They're highly reflective spots and patches you can put on just about anything. I use them on the screaming orange side of my home made 'traffic cone' bag as shown. Use them to stand out like rabbit's eyes when the headlights hit you (hopefully just the lights) in the dead of night.

SUITCASE TIP: Use the Travelbag as an 'inner bag' in the suitcase This is a tip from BF Club of San Francisco member Andrew Bell. I use to put the zippe up bag on the bottom of the case as padding but this goes one better. "It gives TSA something to open, then they seem to zip it up, satisfied," says Andrew. It also makes for a nice, neatly packed suitcase. The sign in the zip lock bag says "This bike in suitcase is difficult to re-pack without breaking something." Which also seems to send out the right message - I've never opened the suitcase to discover a problem.

Here's the bag opened. Note the helmet and Detours bag (with rooster tail) fits nicely inside. I also use a spare tire to pad the front wheel from the rest of the bike.
