Pedal Power member and small wheeled cyclist, Tony McKittrick, will give a presentation on his epic 7,800 kilometre journey across Canada from June to September last year. Following Tony's presentation, fellow Bike Friday world traveler Lynette Chiang http://www.galfromdownunder.com is back in her hometown Canberra and wll briefly demonstrate the new Bike Friday tikit, 'the 5-second folder with the famous Friday ride', http://www.bikefriday.com/tikit

Highlights include the bicycle crazes of the 1860s and 1890s, a milestone court case for cyclists' rights, standing-room only Six Day Races at Madison Square Garden, and technological and social changes aplenty. Sponsored by Bike New York in celebration of Bike Month NYC.

Sat., May 24, 2:00 p.m., Museum of the City of New York (1220 Fifth Ave. at 104th St.). Free with museum admission. Valet bike parking available starting at 1:30.

Sutherlin Memorial Weekend Ride

May 2008
SUTHERLIN Memorial Weekend Ride

Every year BF owners Leign & Ivy Robinson and Charlie DeRego host a delightful Memorial day weekend based around their hotel in Sutherlin, a 1 hour drive (or 3 hour ride) from Bike Friday. The weekend includes easy flattish riding along the incredibly scenic Umpqua river, pub stop with a riverside deck, picnic stop on the riverbank with an old iron waterpump to fill your bottles, ice-cream stop an absurd 15 minutes later, a winery stop and lunch at a real old fashioned soda fountain to enjoy maltshakes "like you will never forget" in a quaint hamlet full of antique stores. Whew, sounds like a hard day's riding! Read all about it.

Message from your hosts: Yes, the owners of Sutherlin Inn, Charlie (Tuna) DeRego and Leigh Robinson, are again sponsoring a Memorial Day Weekend bike ride just as we have every year since we acquired Sutherlin Inn, but this may be the last of the rides because we may be selling the motel this year.

With Memorial Day this year falling on the 26th of May, we will be riding on the 24th and 25th. We start off from the motel at 9AM on the 24th.

Call the motel for room reservations and ask for the Memorial Day bicyclists' rate, which will get you a room for two people at the single-person rate. Join us if you can. We hope to see you there!--Charlie (Tuna) DeRego and Leigh Robinson

Tired of of the peak hour standstill? Envious of fit cyclists cruising past the congestion? Like to ride but need more cues, clues, companionship? A panel of Sydney movers and shakers in the cycling community present a "mini-sustainability symposium" of new, novel and increasingly necessary ways you can transform your daily commute. Meet these cycling advocates, learn about Bike Bus and riding with bike buddies, and open your mind to bicycles built for a sustainable future, including the multi-modal - or folding - bicycle. Bromptons and the new tikitTM, Bike Friday's answer to global oil addiction, will be briefly demonstrated. Refreshments will be served by Clarence St Cyclery. Note: Clarence St Cyclery do not endorse the purchase of any particular brand of bicycle at this event.

Recumbent Weekend by the Sea

September 2008
SatRDay, red

Read the inaugural 2007 event report

The inaugural 2007 rally was a blast! Here is an event especially for our SatRDay owners. John and Ann Hoyt invite recumbent riders, especially SatRDay owners, to a weekend rally based at their divine cottages by the sea. John says: My wife and I would like to host you folks in September at our cottages in Rye. Rides will vary from 17 miles to 45 miles to a lot longer if you wish and all sorts of combinations in between. Portsmouth is just an 20 minute ride by bike from here and it's quite the quaint town (lots of restaurants and shopping). York and Ogunquit Maine are about 20 - 30 minutes by car or an hour by bike. Again, lots of restaurants and shopping. Our rocky coast is a great place to relax and read or just gaze or whatever. A good place to just get a feel for this area is the Official NH guide book go to the seacoast region. Our web site is www.hoytslodges.com . Special cottage rate for attendees. Call us or better yet, come on by, park here for the day, and check out the coast. [Editor's note: John and Ann are two of the coolest and nicest people you are every likely to meet in your life, ever - the Gal] Permalink: http://www.bikefriday.com/events/ryerecumbent
