We want to welcome you to the Bike Friday community. It's our pleasure to announce that one of the UK's best bike shops has chosen to join us in promoting cycling, travel and Bike Friday. Avon Valley Cyclery's owners, Richard Grigsby and Gary Cooper are actually real bike guys, something that Alan and I really feel good about. Their background is similar to our own in that they come from a strong cycling background of racing, touring and a general interest of cycling as a lifestyle, along with a strong background and interest in business. These are unusual combinations in the Bike world. Something that I think that you as a potential Bike Friday Rider will appreciate when it's time for a test ride and fitting for your new traveling companion.

Richard and Gary's store is conveniently located behind the train station in Bath England. This is an incredibly wonderful area to cycle, so bring your helmet, shoes and pedals for your test ride. No point in showing up without seeing a little bit of history and riding some great cycling roads.

EVER SINCE Bike Friday designer and co-founder Hanz Scholz landed on our shores for Cyclefest 2002 and gave us the good oil on Bike Friday, we knew we had to 'join the fold'. We all know how nutty Brits are about folding bicycles, and now we're proud to be the premier UK outlet for an established brand that PERFORMS like a really good, non-folding bike. For the uninitiated, we consider ourselves the UK's finest REAL bike shop. That is, REAL service with a REAL smile. We even named ourselves after an American bike shop, so we know what 'Have a Nice Day' means, even if it's pouring down in buckets. Take a look at our website and you'll see we're more than a bike shop - we live and breathe cycling. Come and visit us in Bath, we've got two big arches, at the rear of the main railway station.

July 2004 Update

You are probably aware that we have been the sole UK importer of Bike Friday for over eighteen months. This is just to update you on the progress we have made.

Buying a Bike Friday from us

Thanks to our experience over the past 18 months, the process of buying your Bike Friday has never been easier. Once in touch, we discuss your requirements in order to choose the most suitable model and components. We have developed a computer program for costing your ideal Bike Friday. This enables us to email you a quote (ideally on the same day). For custom bikes we need to know your body measurements (which you can easily do at home...) and your ideal set up, which is usually taken from your favourite road or mountain bike. Once you are happy with the specification, we take a 50% deposit and schedule a build slot with Bike Friday, which usually translates to a six-week delivery.

We can supply less specific requirements from our UK stocks. Once we receive the frame kit, the bike is built on our premises, by our mechanics. This includes a handbuilt pair of wheels and real grease on the threads of the components - sadly lacking in most mass-produced bikes. Once built the bike is test ridden and stored ready for collection, or posted, carriage-free, to your UK home during the week.

Try before you buy - at Bath or in London this September We have a fleet of demonstrator bikes here for you to try. If you are in the London area, we will be at Islington International Bike Show for the third time this September.

UK Bike Friday Website update

Our www.bikefriday.co.uk website is progressing well but until that is available we have some basic information on www.foldingbikes.co.uk along with details of all of the folding bikes we stock. The main www.bikefriday.com website still provides a wealth of information for International models, all of which are available through us.
