HOT OFF MY CAMERA! Movie Clip of the meeting with NBC-Channel 10's Barbara Morse (2.1 Mb Quicktime).
WELL, I have FINALLY found a wi-fi cyber cafe for the first time on my Handsomest Man in Cuba tour since flying into Burlington VT on Sep 2. Amazing that I was able to find one in the most godforsaken towns to tap in my Mexico Chronicles last Christmas ... of course, it's because everyone has their own private connection in the land of the rich and infamous. So you'll shortly be privy to my full tour report!
The news of the moment is I have just been interviewed by Emmy-award nominated Health Reporter Barbara Morse of NBC Channel 10 Rhode Island.
The segment will air this evening, 5:30 p.m. But you, dear surfers, will get the jump on the locals thanks to this wi-fi cafe where I am killing time before my 7 p.m. slideshow at Books on the Square. See my tour schedule and if you live near my upcoming talk locations in RI, Boston, VA, DC, SF, Davis and LA, please come out and see me!
My entire Rhode Island program including two talks, BF Club rides, radio interview with local nun-turned-lawyer-turned-radio star Arlene Violet was organized by the four dynamo-leaders of the Bike Friday Club of Rhode Island: John Rohland (Pocket Rocket), Patricia Lang (big wheel but we are twisting her arm), Rob Giovino (Pocket Crusoe) and Sarah Antaya (Pocket Crusoe). You'll shortly be able to see them on the Bike Friday Clubs page. To join the club, call John Rohland (401) 258-8828, john | dot | r | at | verizon | dot | net.
Tonight at 7.00 p.m. I am speaking at Books on the Square, and local restaurant the Cuban Revolution is supplying food and a special Bike Friday / Handsomest Man in Cuba discount coupon for an after-party meal at 9 p.m. Come on down!
Incidentally, I opened a Rhode Island paper to read that Oprah recently gave all 278 people in her studio audience a $28,000 big American car each. Now, this riled me. Her show is watched for the supposed heart connection it offers, an antidote to our commerical world where we are increasingly being treated as human doings, not human beings, and the car industry is probably the singular cause of all this disconnect, not to mention the oil crisis and the war in Iraq, consumption of Prozac, therapy, television shopping - don't get me started. What a wasted opportunity. She could have given away 278 Bike Fridays. Or even Huffies. I am going to write to her and wag my finger at her lack of vision. Enclosing a copy of the Handsomest Man in Cuba, of course...

I was interviewed at high speed by local radio star Arlene Violet - our mouths full of delicious free comida provided by the Cuban Revolution Restaurant down the road.
