Canal du Midi goes through the Etangs in the South... Scary stuff, since further on the towpath was under water, as well. A crumbly dam served as pathway; no picture taken since I would have fallen in!

Public toilet and shower, what a treat!

Cycling in France

Along canals and rivers in France there's wonderful cycling possible: mostly without motorized traffic on flat towpaths with lots of shade along the quiet waterways.

Infrastructure is normally quite good (except when closed -- for whatever reason!): campgrounds, restaurants, stores and wineries everywhere; as many monuments, castles and other historic wonders as one wants or bears to look at.... I'll never get tired of it!
