Eugene bike club GEARS and the Eugene Bicycle Coalition have merged and BF's own Paul Adkins has taken the helm as President of this newly formed, local advocacy/riding group. Green Gear Cycling's Guiding Principals & Beliefs include "We believe in community as "things we do and share because we care for others, and for the good of the place" (our World). A non-monetary exchage of value." Paul does great job modeling this principle for all of us.

RIDE WITH GEARS
Gears Cycling Club, Eugene

AN EASY ROUTE TO GET YOU STARTED ...

Intensely social 18-mile route with a couple of easy hills. Signature route every month, with some variations depending on the group.

1) Start at Bike Friday, 3364 W 11th Eugene, 9.30am
2) Follow bike path WEST to Terry Street.
3) Turn right into Greenhill Industrial park.
4) You'll see a gravel path - follow it until you reach busy W 11th
5) Cross busy W 11th with care.
6) Shortcut: Go through Diesse Feed & Grain driveway with discretion and be prepared to ask permission (give them a wave of gratitude) until you hit road again. Go right out of Diesse for a short way then
7) Turn left onto Greenhill Road
8) Turn right at Oak Hill Road (short stretch)
9) Turn left at Crow Road
10) Turn left at Pine Grove road
From here there are two alternatives: 11a) Turn Left onto Spencer Creek Road OR
11) Turn left at the quaint Lutheran Church onto Gimpl Hill Road. The best thing about this route is that you can pop in on Dan McCall of the American Donkey Association Headquarters (look for the American Flag and Bart the Donkey in the front yard, on the left) and see how he and PeeWee the long-haired Poitou Donkey are geting on. Dan would appreciate you donating any Donkey memorabilia of any descripion. From here its a climb up to Bailey Hill Road - this route is quieter and you miss the long hill of Bailey Hill
12) Turn left at Bailey Hill Road and follow the signs to Eugene
13) Turn right onto Fern Ridge bike path just before W 11th, and follow back to the shop for refreshments!
