Beijing here we come!

JEDI LI and his wife Elaine recently purchased an Enno Orange XL Tandem Traveler to go to the 2008 Beijing Olympics, starting out from their home in Guangzhou - a mere 3000 km away. It's their first long distance tour!

To top it off, Elaine is a novice cyclist, so the Li's selected an IPS independent crank system so she doesn't have to pedal all of the time. (That's how you solve the problem - and extend the marriage - of a couple with different pedaling cadences.)

Jedi owns a bike shop in Guangzhou and says he would like to start selling Bike Fridays after the trip. As far as we know, this is the first Bike Friday Tandem sold to China.

Message from the Li's on the road ...

We started our journey on Apr 30. Both my wife and I are enjoying the tour, we think it is a grand tour for us! My blog is recording this tour, but it is written in Chinese:

Jedi and Elaine Li's Blog (in Chinese)

It contains scenery in XiaMen ... we just passed this beautiful city 2 days ago.

With no shortage of folding bikes - indeed, any bikes - to choose from in China, it's a real testament to Bike Friday's reputation as "a bike built for the long haul" that the Li's chose our USA-made rig for their journey.

From the pictures in their blog it seems they're traveling ultra, ultra, ultra light - no doubt with an ultra heavy duty credit card.

Just a single rack pack is all we can see - how do they do it?

All we can say, Jedi, is the Force must be with you ... watch this space (or learn Chinese) for an update, and please send tailwinds and great-great granny gear to jedili@hotmail.com - LC

Now this is what you call traveling light - how do they do it? Someone read their Chinese blog and tell us!
