Pocket Expedition

I love this bike.

We took it to South Korea and rode all over the place. Then when I came back to Chicago, it was stolen :(

The bike is super sturdy, super reliable, and very nice to ride. I think it's important, however, to point out that this is not a quick-folding bike. It takes a little time (and patience) to fold and unfold it.

So if you're looking for something that you're going to fold and unfold every day, this probably isn't it. But I have heard good things about the tikit, and other Bike Friday models that are quick folding.

This bike is more for long-distance travel (like putting it in a suitcase and taking it around the world) rather than commuting and putting it under your desk. See video

A Solid Ride

We decided to buy 2 folding bikes for their pack-ability. So we ordered two Dahons from our local bike shop. The Dahons had reliability problems, but, hey that happens. The dealer quickly addressed most of them. Nothing they could do about the poor quality wheels that could not be trued though. Our first trip was the rails to trails cross PEI, Canada. It is a cinder trail, relatively smooth. Anne's bike was good, mine felt like it was flexing, especially the steer tube. I am 230 lbs, the bike felt like it was going to break! It was pronounced enough that I would slow for any bump. The dealer did not argue at all, we replaced them with 2 Bike Friday Expeditions, at extra cost, of course. They now have 700 kms on them and have been virtualy flawless. Mine feels so solid, I don't hesitate to let a little air out of the tires and head off on an easy to moderate mountain bike trail. Don't get me wrong, it is not going to replace my Santa Cruz Bullet, but it does broaden the window of rides that I can do. And, it is just plain fun to ride!
